Do you ever wake up and feel like the day has started without you and you are already behind? You think that perhaps if you just lay back down and reset your alarm that you may be able to try waking up again and get ahead? But your phone is already saying that you have 30 unread emails, there are a few texts in there too, and you realize you are already late… so you start running. You go and go, and then at the end of the day you crash into bed and are absolutely, completely exhausted.
Are those your favorite days? Um, no.
So the question is – how do we get the day to slow down? How do we take the day and make it our own? I hate the anxiousness that comes with feeling behind, so I’ve tried various things over the years to stop that feeling. Prepping the night before helps me, such as having my lunch packed, clothes picked out and/or gym bag ready to go; so that even if I do sleep through that alarm I have less decisions to make in order to be ready. Other times I have just literately stopped whatever I was doing, taken a deep breath, and wrote a list of everything that is making me feel like running (which is basically a list of everything I have to do). And once written down, I can review, prioritize and set a game plan. I am type A, so I do very well with a plan. I’ve also been reading so much about the benefits of meditation, including Tiffany’s experience with some mediation apps, that I am trying to work that into my day as well.
Ultimately, we just need to remember that we are in control, even in the toughest moments where we feel completely and utterly out of control. We have the ability to change the course of our day. We can choose our path, our outlook, our attitude. It is true!
Anyone else have any advice on how they slow down the day? Please share!
