Have you ever been in a stretch class such as Yoga where they ask you to hold the pose and just breathe; and you take a deep breath in and out, and you realize you can stretch a little farther? Isn’t that an incredible feeling?
I was in dance recently and this is exactly what happened. I was working on my center splits and she said to open my mouth and breathe. So I did, and I was able to stretch farther and get closer to the floor. I tried the same technique during lunges and squats, and the same thing happened. When I took a deep breath, I could push myself just a little bit farther.
I left dance and thought about the moments during the day where I could apply this technique. I have tried before to stop and take a breath. In fact, years ago I tattooed “breathe” on my left wrist, as a reminder to do just that. And who would have thought that I consistently struggle with that – to pause, to slow down, to take a deep breathe?
As we end 2015 and enter 2016, where are the moments that you could slow down and just breathe? I find more each day!
