Jess Lively’s Life with Intention course was just what I needed!
As I’m sure you’ve realized from reading my posts, I’m pretty focused on living my best life. While it may seem from the outside that I have it all together, I totally do not. A few months ago, I hit a low point in my life. It felt like all of a sudden, I was not happy with how things were – with work and with how effective I was at managing everything on my plate. I felt like I was failing. While I loved the people I worked with, I was not loving my job. I had been back from maternity leave for a few months and felt like I was standing on the sidelines while everything was happening around me. I was behind the scenes and didn’t feel like I was able to contribute my full value or grow anymore.
I wish I could tell you that it didn’t take me a long time to find my way through this. While I see the sun shining so brightly on my life and career now, back then, I just felt defeated and complained. I imagine I wasn’t the best person to be around at the time. I was frustrated that I was still waiting on my promotion which was promised almost a year before, I was itching for a new challenge, and I was waiting on life to change and show me what I should be doing. Should I quit my job and do something completely different? Maybe now was the time to move across the country as my husband and I had been talking about for a long time?
Around this time, I found The Lively Show podcast which I talked about in a previous post. I loved it! I felt inspired by the people Jess Lively interviewed and particularly liked when Jess asked each highly successful person she interviewed what resistance they faced and what advice they had for someone just starting out. Most of them did not have it all figured out and they doubted themselves along the way. Hearing their thoughts and experiences made me feel not as alone in my own journey and gave me the push to start thinking about how I could actively change my own situation. I was addicted to the podcasts and then I realized that Jess also has a class called Life with Intention Online. It is focused on helping you identify and live by your values which would be much more rewarding than chasing the “shiny pennies” (aka that promotion and other “goals” in life that you think will make you happy when you have them). Sign me up! It was totally worth the investment for me.
I recently completed the Life with Intention Online course and really liked it! With a bit of prioritizing on my part, it was pretty easy to finish since Jess broke it down into several modules which featured short videos that were quick, but impactful.
So, what was the result? I’ve identified several intentions based on my values in the 4 different areas Jess has you contemplate and I’m working on living these intentions:
– To eat and exercise for energy and wellness
– To have a tidy, stylish, and uncluttered home
– To have a carefully curated wardrobe that I feel confident and comfortable wearing
– To be a warm, supportive, understanding, and respectful wife
– To be present and patient with the girls
– To continually learn and grow, support and build up others, and be authentic in my career
Spoiler alert: I can start living these intentions NOW. I don’t have to quit my job or move across the country. Maybe that will be in my future, but for now I can focus on my values just where I am. I already feel so much more peaceful and happy!
One of the first places I’ve started is with my personal habit intention. Now that I’m focused on something based on a value I have (exercising and eating for energy), I’ve actually been able to keep up a regular exercise routine. Over the last four weeks, I’ve exercised at least 4 times a week! I’m still working on my action plans for the other intentions, but I hope I’m as successful with those too!
Have you ever hit a low point like I did? How did you find your way out of it?
