Since summer is officially here (as of last weekend), that means it’s also time to enjoy some popsicles! Until last year, my popsicle making experience was limited to freezing liquid in Dixie cups, but I’ve upped my game now.
So, why make your own popsicles? Well, for one, you get to choose the flavors. And two, no weird ingredients or pounds of sugar which is way more important to me now that I have little ones sharing the popsicles. We can use ACTUAL fruit, guys! Oh, and we can use alcohol for the adults! Finally, number three, it’s just plain fun to make your own for both kids and adults!
Let’s talk containers for making your own popsicles. You can use the tried and true Dixie cup or you can invest in some popsicle molds. Last year, I used this popsicle mold and it worked great. That said, I didn’t like that they individually stood up since they were a bit hard to use in storing them in the freezer. So, I invested in some Zoku popsicle molds – the mini pop molds for the girls (the perfect size for those under 5!) and the classic pop molds for the adults.
Now it’s time to make some popsicles! The sky is really the limit in creating your own, but the below are some recipes to get you inspired:
– Strawberry Banana popsicles (Picture above. 3 ingredients – the girls loved these!)
– Cucumber, Ginger, Gin popsicles (adults only!)
My next popsicle adventure includes trying out some recipes from People’s Pops, the cookbook from a super fancy popsicle shop in Brooklyn. (I mean, strawberry & balsamic and blueberry & moonshine popsicles?!?)
Happy popsicle making! Do you have any favorite combinations I should try out?
