This fall our travel schedules for our office jobs have intensified, and finding time to take a new workout class while juggling our family commitments has been challenging. So for this Fitness First we are taking a new approach, and instead of trying a workout in a studio, we found one we can try at home, and potentially from a future hotel room. After searching on YouTube, and polling our friends, we decided to try a high-intensity interval training, or HIIT, workout from Fitness Blender called – HIIT like a Girl. – B
What is it?
High-intensity interval training, or HIIT, is a form of interval training that alternates short periods of intense anaerobic exercise (or exercise that triggers lactate formation to promote strength, speed and power) with periods of recovery.
What do I wear?
A tank top or fitted t-shirt, with shorts or yoga pants, and shoes. We’d recommend clothing that isn’t too baggy, since you’ll be doing quick movements and don’t want it to get in the way.
What gear do I need?
A towel and water, as you do sweat and get your heart rate up!
Overall I thought…
B: It was intense! I like the concept of HIIT as the exercises change fast, and even if there is an exercise you don’t like, you know it will be over quickly!
T: I love the idea of something so short. As Becca mentioned above, it has been SO tough to fit in a workout so I love the idea of high intensity in a short time.
I was surprised by….
B: How much jumping there is. Perhaps it was just this video, but there is an awful lot of jumping in the exercises which sometimes I love, and other times I cannot stand. Though I do admit it is a good and quick way to get your heart rate up.
T: It is alot of exercises in a very short amount of time. If you read the list, it moves very quickly. I suppose that is good as I do not like burpees so they are only for a short period!
I wish I had…
B: Played some music! It is hard enough to get the motivation to workout on your own at home, let alone trying to push yourself without some tunes. I didn’t realize it until after the video that I could have played some music, which would have help motivate me through the workout.
T: Thought to try a HIIT workout before. I need short and high intensity for my current lifestyle.
Would you do it again?
B: Yes. It was a short and effective way to get in a workout.
T: I think it’s a great option when you don’t have much time to fit in a workout (or are on business travel!).
